The Volunteers of Paxos were started in 2015 by Pipitsa Petrou, Hara Aroni and Andreas Kouroupis.
The group boasts 20 members in 2018, and is now a registered non-profit organisation.
The Volunteers’ mission is to help preserve the natural beauty of Paxos. This is achieved by regular cleaning of beaches and port waters, clearing and signalling of footpaths. They also focus on the pressing issue of waste management on the island, particularly by taking actions to reduce the use of plastic. This is the scope of Plastic-Free-Paxos, a new spinoff of the Volunteers.
Energy, time, and sometimes money is donated by the Volunteers to raise awareness through communication and education, and to engage in concrete projects to improve the environmental issues on the island.
You can also help by donating.
